And here I thought this series would not come up on my priority list this season, I guess I was wrong. If you've watched God Eater last season then you're probably also one of those people who actually waited for episode 10 to come out since they somehow "paused" airing of this series at episode 9 which left me somewhat disappointed. Although I still wanted to finish the series and gave it a rating of 10/10 on MyAnimeList since, as a person who played the game on the PSP, I wanted to see how well they would make an anime out of it.
Once episode 10 was out, I immediately watched it, although my expectations from this episode were not as great as it would have been prior to the last episode since it has been weeks since the last episode, and I didn't even know where the story had stopped. To my surprise though after watching the episode, it left me speechless and unable to sleep for a while. (since I watched it on my tablet before going to sleep)
The story of the episode was actually a flash back from 15 years ago from when the Utsugi family, and other people, were denied access to Fenrir. They found a baby abandoned in a mud pond crying, the mother took him and the Utsugi family took care of him, they gave him the name Lenka Utsugi.
A few years after, the Utsugi family and the other people who were denied access to Fenrir settled in a place where they lived for a couple of years. However, Iroha and Lenka's mother became sick and other people as well, this was probably when Lenka was only 6-8 years old (judging from they way he looked at the time), so the other capable people went out to find medicine for them, Iroha and Lenka went with a group of people and found medicine in an abandoned hospital but as they were about to leave Aragami showed up and attacked the group, thankfully Iroha and Lenka escaped. They stopped to rest at a nearby river bank, but they only had a few minutes to rest because the Aragami found them. Thankfully, (again) someone managed to save them from the Aragami, that someone was Lindow Amamiya.

Iroha and Lenka managed to come back home with the help of Lindow although because they were attacked by the Aragami, they didn't bring back any medicine with them. When they got back home the other groups searching for medicine managed to bring back some, but unfortunately Lenka had gotten sick too. The Utsugi family only had one vial of medicine enough for just one person. When the mother heard of this, she told the father and Iroha to give it to Lenka instead. Soon afterwards, the mother died because of the sickness.
A few years afterwards, Iroha and Lenka had grown, Lenka was probably 14 years old at this time. Their rations and fuel were running very low and they had to go find some again. Lenka was out searching for fuel but when he got back, their village was attacked by the Aragami. Iroha was safe when Lenka got back, but their father was stuck in rubble and the father ordered Iroha to take care of Lenka and go to Fenrir, so they left the father.
Iroha and Lenka escaped but Iroha was deeply wounded on her leg. As time passes by, the wound gets worse, and soon they had to stop walking because Iroha can no longer walk. Aragami was nearby and it was at this time that Iroha told Lenka about his past, about him being abandoned and how the Utsugi family took him in as their own. Iroha told Lenka to leave her and survive but when Lenka refused, she used Lenka's knife and slit her neck.
Iroha did this so that Lenka would have to leave her behind. (I shed manly tears in this part, no joke) Lenka, heartbroken, left his sister behind and ran as fast as he could. While the Aragami ultimately found Iroha and feasted on her now-dead body.
You can imagine how Lenka feels as he was running away. (because I surely did) First, his mother died of sickness, then his father also died when the aragami invaded their home, and then not long after, his sister dies. This sense of attachment to the characters made me feel so sorry for Lenka that he had to endure all those just so that he could survive.
I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU GUYS WATCH THIS SERIES, IF NOT, THEN JUST EPISODE 10 BECAUSE IT WILL SURELY MELT YOUR HEART. T~T
